"Worth the learning curve" 2007-01-13
By MJ Hargreaves (Scotland)
Make no mistake, for the first ten minutes you will regret buying this phone. Then you'll start to get the hang of the heat-sensitive not-buttons and discover all the nifty features. Be warned, if you use your left hand to navigate you WILL accidentally phone the first person on your contacts list the first time you open it.
That said, it doesn't take long to get used to using the not-buttons. Less than 24 hours after buying it I could navigate with my eyes closed. I had a phone with similar features before (a Sanyo, never again omg), but the E900 is 100 times easier to use. The software installed without a hitch, the bluetooth connected up to my headset and my pocket PC in a snap, and the camera takes a pretty spiffy picture.

"Horrible phone" 2009-06-17
By R. Phillips
I've had this phone for several months now, and I've found it to have many irritations. My old digital camera died just as my old phone was starting to have problems, so I decided to spend a bit more on a phone with a reasonable camera. Unfortunately, the camera on this phone is awful. The resolution is good enough for me, but it takes several seconds to take a photo, which is useless when trying to take photos of a toddler (which, as a dad, I often do). I'd expected that when using the flash, but even in bright sunlight, the shutter stays open for several seconds, leading to blurred photos if the subject moves.
The user interface is inconsistent and appears to have bugs. Sometimes, closing the phone will disconnect the call. Other times, it won't. I haven't quite worked out when it will and when it won't, so I can't be sure whether or not it'll disconnect when I close the phone. If I set up an appointment with an alarm in the calendar, then later delete it, sometimes the alarm will go off anyway. If I change the details (but not the time & date) of an appointment in the calendar, when I save it a message pops up informing me that "Period of this appointment falls on another event", even when that appointment is the only thing on that day.

"nice slim phone" 2008-01-28
By Tom Lancaster (London)
I think some people are being a bit tough on this phone. I bought one for my girlfriend and she likes it. I think it's cool - lots of features, really slim, and a nice polished look.
The touch buttons are a bit sensitive, but whenever I've used it it's been fine. I might get one myself - I think its a good all rounder.

"Faulty after two months" 2007-11-30
By D. Mcmullen (UK)
I bought this phone in July 2007, and by September 2007 every time I attempted to text or make a call the phone switched itself off. I reported this to the place of purchase and the manufacturer, and both seemed unwilling to assist with the repair, despite it still being under warranty (and only being 2 months old!)
I would not recommend this phone to anyone who requires a reliable means of contact

"Fatally flawed part 2!" 2007-09-18
By Robert Howcroft (UK)
Having owned a Samsung D500 a few years ago, but then converted back to Nokia when the mighty `N' series phones arrived, I received this two months ago as one of the company upgrades. Now while the phone admittedly looks very beautiful in pictures, in your hand it just feels cheap, flimsy and very, very plasticky. I'd seriously worry about the build quality of this handset since it certainly doesn't feel like a phone that could withstand the occasional knock or two.
I think a great deal of the problem is that manufacturers release so many handsets these days in very short periods of time that many of them end up only half finished. Whereas the stunning in its day D500 was around for a while and had a chunky, solid feel to it, eventually evolving into the D600, subsequent Samsungs have come thick and fast and been very much hit or miss affairs. The E900 and D900 are both very similar to proceeding handsets (and each other), all the while sampling different technologies. The U600, with its brand new looks, still transports those horrible touch sensitive buttons from the E900 that really should have been best left behind. Mine - like others in reviews - has an over-sensitive call button and often dials out at the slightest touch of a finger. Worse, the hang up button is under-sensitive meaning that the battery has sometimes had to be removed to stop the errant calls.
Since this is such a fundamental flaw of the phone, it's absolutely impossible to recommend, since anyone on a `Pay as you Go' tariff could unexpectedly find all their calling credit used up when they need it the most. Looks alone simply cannot carry this handset while it remains so flawed. Think of it as the equivalent of a car with a dripping petrol tank - you just couldn't trust it to do the job, could you?
Now that the G600 is finally out - sporting `real buttons' again - it's easy to see that the U600 is just another precursor to that handset, and anyone looking to upgrade their current phone should definitely go for the G600.

"Slow and too many steps" 2008-03-01
By Ian (London)
I bought this phone because it was cheap, and all I want to do is make calls, send texts and store numbers. It takes too many clicks to do things: 4 to bring up a blank text message; after you've written the message, it is a minimum of 7 clicks to send it. Creating a new address book entry is similarly tedious. Everything is slow. I'm upgrading.

"Great 4 the money" 2008-02-11
By Alasdair Freer (Carluke, Scotland)
Bought this for my 8yr old. He can work everything he needs to.
OK, so no camera and no bluetooth, but for kids its great. Keeps its charge for 4-5 days easily.

"Really not that bad...." 2007-12-21
By J. Teague
I seriously cannot see what all the fuss is about this phone. It is exactly what it is intended to be... a no frills handset for those who are not bothered with having a phone that can do a million things.
I'm tech savvy, and must admit, this phone is not for me... I like having built in camera features, bluetooth, infra-red etc.... But for someone who does not need or want this, and wants something much easier to use, this is the phone for them!
The phone is extremely cheap and excellent value for money. It is built well, has the basics you will need, and looks extremely modern (yes, its small, slides, and will fit nicely in your pocket!).
To those who give this product a bad review; Don't expect to pay virtually nothing, and receive a handset packed with the latest features. For what you get, this is an excellent model, an ideal choice for those who aren't so technical minded, and represents superb value for money. And as someone has already pointed out, this phone is cheap enough to not worry about breaking it.

"cute, cheap phone" 2007-10-18
By Victoria Robinson (LDN)
i bought this phone not along ago, in pink.
It looks great!
the slide feature is a nice little quirk to have also.
The menu is clearly set out, although when changing a setting it can take awhile, having to conforming it. Also sending a message isnt as straight forward as a nokia or sony ericsson.
The colour quality is very good for a under £50 phone.
It doesnt however have bluetooth or infra red which may mean that your stuck with a default background for a while.
because of the slide feature it can be a little difficult/ uncomfortable on the hand to send messages, but after a few days you get used to it.
All in all, small, sleek and so far reliable.
If you need a cheap phone with no frills. i would recommend this one.
and if it does break in the near future i wouldnt feel like ive wasted my money!

"AWFUL" 2007-09-24
By Dr Nick (Thornton)
This mobile phone is dreadfull. I owned it for a day, and resorted to sending it back. The slide function is awful. The fact that it has no connectivity means you have to choose from awful backgrounds and the whole feel of the phone is cheep. Ive had many samsung phones before, but what is this one? I dont even think that it is a phone, just a big brick of plastic that moves up and down. What have you done samsung? Why create a brick of sliding plastic. Some people may like this phone, but personally i think that it is awful.
You have been warned!
